Congratulations! Your application for a financial award to attend our thirteenth conference in Houston, Texas has been accepted. The grant includes (1) accommodations for up to three nights (October 20, 21, & 22 at $119/night + taxes) at the Hilton Houston Medical Center Hotel and (2) a waiver of the ClassCrits Conference registration fee ($275 for non-ClassCrits members, $250 for ClassCrits members). This conference support does not include airfare, incidentals, or travel to and from the hotel.
In order to receive this support, you must do the following by the deadline has been extended to September 6:
(1) Register for the conference here by September 6.
(2) Reserve a hotel room using this link at the Hilton Houston Medical Center Hotel, 6633 Travis Street, Houston, using your own credit card. Except for incidentals, your credit card will not be charged because ClassCrits will pay the Hilton directly for your room (maximum of three nights). In the event the Hilton is sold out, you may reserve a room at the same rate at the Westin Houston Medical Center hotel, at this link. Cost per night at each hotel is $119 & taxes. You must reserve your hotel by September 6.
You will be responsible for any incidentals beyond the cost of your room. If you are unable to attend the conference, you must cancel your reservation by October 15 or you will be responsible for paying a one-night lodging fee at the hotel.
(3) This financial award is a benefit, coming from limited funds. After September 2, if you have not registered for the conference or reserved your hotel room, we will reallocate this funding to someone else. Also, if you are not able to attend the conference, you must let us know as soon as possible. We really hope you will attend the conference, but if you cannot, you must cancel your hotel reservation by October 15, or your personal credit card will be charged.
Special Saturday, October 22nd Program Options:
Instead of panels, the program for Saturday afternoon will feature two special events that require advance registration, be sure to select your option on this form.
(1) Toxic Tour: Limited to 50 participants
As a conference theme capstone, we will have a “toxic tour” by bus of the East End of Houston, a working-class and ethnically diverse area which is the heart of the city’s Hispanic/Latinx community and which is adjacent to the city’s extensive system of oil refineries and chemical plants. The tour will be conducted by T.E.J.A.S., a grassroots environmental justice organization located in the East End that is dedicated to educating people about pollution and empowering them to fight for a healthy environment.
(2) Writing Session:
ClassCrits will host an informal writing retreat that will give attendees time to write and think about a project, interspersed with breaks for discussion and camaraderie.
